Elias Nilsson had a vision to operate a 100% emission-free boat. A vision that became a reality in 2019. We asked a few questions to the captain, owner and founder of Ecosightseeing, Stockholm’s first electric sightseeing boat.
How would you describe your venue?
- Ecosightseeing offer exclusive boat tours in Stockholm tailored to your wishes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner cruises. Our own favorite is the Oyster and Champagne cruise. The vessel SYLVIA has a special story. Originally build in England 1943, ordered by the Royal Navy, served as a patrol boat and participated in the landings of Normandy 1944.
Rebuilt and renovated over the years nowadays the boat serves as proof that a circular economy model can combine sustainability and top quality. The over eighty-year old ship is now converted to 100% electric propoulsion and powered by second life Tesla batteries. Noiselessly, vibration-free and completely free of emissions, we welcome you on board and continue the journey into the future.
Can you describe with a few words how you work with sustainability and why that is important to you?
- In short, it's about making use of the resources we have at our disposal in a resource-efficient way. Better to refurbish and reuse than to discard and buy new. Better fossil-free and renewable than emission-heavy and consuming. Everything we do has consequences. Our choices really do matter. No one is perfect - but I think the will and the dream of a better world make all the difference. As Greta said "No one is too small to make a difference”.
Finally, please tell us about your favorite spots in Stockholm?
- For the best view of the city my favorite place is restaurant Himlen skybar at Södermalm. Best coffee in town I would say Caffe Poli at Sankt Göransgatan 70 in Kungsholmen and the best experience on water is The Djurgården canal, that I will be happy to show you!
